World Health Organization: Philately @75

Birthday commemorations for WHO

After the end of the second world war, victorious nations agreed to form an organisation, that could prevent a third-world war. When the ward ended in 1945, these countries formed United Nations. This was a beginning of global cooperation at an unprecedented scale

As nations started their deliberations, there also was a felt need to improve global cooperation in health. Some countries were already working on this concept, such as Pan-American health organisation. Need for a global health organisation led to formation of World Health organisation. Its constitution was drafted in 1946, and it was established on 7th April 1948. As new countries, became free from the colonial powers, they inherited weak health systems. Over the years this organisation has provided guidance to all national health systems, reduce diseases, and improve longevity.

In 2023 it has completed 75 years of its existence. Over past many years, various countries and United Nations itself has celebrated its anniversary. Please enjoy below the slide-show preview on world health organisation anniversary stamps over the years.
